Digital x-rays allow us to see parts of your mouth that are not visible during a routine checkup. Digital x-rays are safer for patients than traditional x-rays due to the reduced amount of radiation. Digital x-rays also have the advantage of showing up right away in our dental software. This allows our doctors to quickly view high-resolution images of your digital x-rays in our treatment rooms, where we can have a discussion during your consultation.
Digital x-ray technology allows for more accurate diagnoses due to the clarity of the image and the tools available within our imaging software (i.e. enhanced contrast, zooming, etc). This in turn allows us to make more accurate diagnoses and build effective treatment plans. Digital x-rays provide approximately 80% less radiation than a standard x-ray. A single digital x-ray equates to about as much environmental radiation you would be subjected to during a typical day.
The need for x-rays truly depends on your child’s individual oral health care needs. Our dentists will recommend x-rays only if they need to get a better look at areas that are not visible to the naked eye. These decisions are made after reviewing your child’s dental history and risk factors.
